Somatic Movement & Yoga
Have you ever felt “disconnected” from you or your own body, finding it really hard to make sense of sensations or feelings? Or perhaps you find it hard to feel anything at all?
Nowadays we tend to spend a lot of time “inside our head”, so much that our body becomes merely “what carries the head around”. Communication between the two becomes hard, and we end up forgetting what it feels like to properly sense the body. Until symptoms such as chronic pain, anxiety, tension and even dissociation stop us in our track. This is the time to take a deep breath and step into action.
Normally, in a healthy state, information and energy flow through the entire body in harmony: we can access, regulate and acknowledge feelings and emotions. Through information that travels along the nervous system, we get a sense of what’s going on inside the body (interoception). Whether we feel hungry, relaxed or in pain, for example.
When we have emotional - or physical - trauma, or we live in a state of constant stress, everything tightens up… imagine how difficult it would be for information to travel, for energy to flow… the brain starts misinterpreting neutral signals from the body, mistaking them as negative (dangerous), and our body tightens up even more for protection.
Somatic Movement Therapy gives you the tools you need to access the wisdom stored in your body. It helps you re-establish and deepen the body-mind connection by restoring a healthy flow of energy and information through the entire system.
Practise with me if you want to experience:
A somatic therapy practice that helps to release trauma, restore the wisdom of the bodymind, move with greater ease.
Flowing movements linked with the breath, with an emphasis on the deeply transformative quality of the mind-body connection.
A type of movement therapy in which we re-educate the way our nervous system interacts with the body. We communicate messages of safety to the brain, downregulating the nervous system. This, in turn, allows the brain to accurately interpret the messages coming from the body.
Breathing while sensing the whole body as it moves in space.
An extensive exploration of how breathing connects with the way we move, allowing us to balance the body and calm the mind
An accessible, functional and healing practice for YOU and your bodymind.
As a mind-body centred Yoga teacher and therapist, I work intuitively and relationally to help you develop bodymind resilience, move with ease, and manage pain. Because our bodymind is precious, and we all deserve to enjoy living in it.
My teaching practice is trauma-informed and mindfulness-oriented: we listen to our body responses to movement.
